Identity Crisis...

I have been wanting a hair makeover for quite some time, so last week I decided to make my move. My hair is naturally a medium brownish color, so I have been trying to coax (force) it to be blonde for basically all of my post-pubescent life. I was getting tired of all the dye jobs and so this time I decided to give my poor hair a rest. At first I liked it, but now I am having a major identity crisis and I am just pining for my dry-damaged-split-endy glorious frizzy-blond-locks with-black-roots. I do like the cut, but the color is quite a change. Here are the mug shots:

(And by the way- does the fact that I posted a picture of myself online with no makeup say that I am confident, or does it merely say that I have TOTALLY let myself go? Just trying to decide...)

By the way, did anyone ever tell you your hair texture could change after having babies? Me either. My hair used to be stick straight, and now it is downright curly (but only in the back... thank you very much, mother nature) and wavy-ish in the front. I really can't do a thing with it. So I have been wearing it up in a bun for like a year. Besides, I'm not the type that enjoys prying clumpfuls of long hair out of the vise-grip fists of a baby. And did I mention it is all falling out? By the handful? So maybe this illustrates for you my reasons for wanting a change.

Here is the new 'do. The stylist said the color is "demi-permanent" which means it's supposed to only last a few months and then fade out. She basically matched the color to my roots. (Can my hair really be THAT dark?) I also feel pressure to actually "do" it now that I have a real haircut, and I have to fight the urge I have every day to put it in a bun, ponytail, twist it up in a clip, or otherwise put it up and out of my face. Old habits die hard, I guess. The main thing I have learned from this experience is this: Some people are born blond, and some are born to BE blond....
Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go and make another hair appointment now. jk
**Update: 10/5/07 I am liking it much more now that the initial shock has worn off. The change just took some getting used to. Overall I think it's quite a fun change!

I love the new color too! I think it looks great, but have always been partial to brunettes! What does Marshall think?

Marshall is the most easygoing, easy to please guy in the world. He says he likes my hair no matter what I do to it. (Then again,we both know what a stress case I am, so even if he hated it,he would never dare say so. He knows I would lock myself in the closet forever and never come out.) But I figure he met me as a blonde, and I have always been blonde-ish, so that is probably the look he prefers. By the way, the look is growing on me slowly, as I am getting used to it.

My hair did the EXACT same thing after having a baby. Wavy-ish in the front and shirlytemple-ish in the back. Oh wash and go...I miss you. I'm with ya on the ponytail/bun thing.

Wow, what a change a hair cut can make huh? Looks SO good! I say keep it dark. I've been trying to figure out what to do with my hair also... I used to be blonde, now I'm afraid I'm will-ing myself blonde. My hair on the underside has gotten SO much darker than I remember it ever being... I'm not sure I'm as brave as you to match my roots for the whole head. Besides hair falling out by the handfuls, did you get breakage all along the front hairline like me? Nice, now I have 1 inch bangs around my whole face! Try and figure out what to do with that!!

I like it! I have never seen you as a brunette, but it suits you. I didn't realize your hair was so long, it was like it was when I met you in nursing school! Anyway, I like the short, two thumbs up.

PS: to Mindi (I don't know who you are, but I'm gonna comment on your comment anyway), I also got the postpartum one inch bangs around my face and I tried everything short of super glue to pin them down. I literally had a halo of flyaway hairs for a year or however long it took them to grow long enough to lay down. Needless to say, it sucked.
